My wife and I own a prairie-styled 100 year old home on the north side of Sioux
City, Iowa. The home is proudly listed on the National Historic Registry. The
mature vegetation (landscaped much like it was on the first day it was built)
has hardly changed over the last century, with one caveat: the trees that now
flank each side of the property are some of the LARGEST and OLDEST elm trees...I
dare say, in the midwest. Every year our home is pelted with thousands upon
thousands of those frustrating little seeds the kids call "helicopters." The
first year we lived there, we soon discovered that cleaning the gutters on such

started getting bids on gutter protection to block those darned "helicopter"
seeds.
I saw advertisements about "gutter helmet" and had them come out
and give me a bid. They wanted $8000.00 to put their "helmet" on my gutters. I
was dumb-founded, since I had the receipt for the newer seamless gutters that
were purchased in 1998...the whole gutter system cost about $2000.00. It
occurred to me, that instead of cleaning my gutters every year or paying
$8000.00 to avoid the ritual, I could simply tear all the gutters off and pay
the same company to put brand new ones on the whole house for the next four
years. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the leaf relief system. IT
